Organisers Light Up Alsager at Switch On 2018

Organisers in Alsager literally lit up the town on Sunday 25th November, when its Christmas Light Switch On took place.

For this one time, every year, several community groups come together to deliver what is now renowned to be, one of the best Christmas Market & Switch On events in Cheshire East.

The Christmas Event Committee, chaired by Christine Bates, is made up of volunteers from Alsager Partnership, Alsager Round Table, PME Ltd, with funding from Alsager Town Council and headline sponsor Signature Financial Services Ltd and together they brought a jam-packed programme of entertainment and fun that left visitors feeling festive and full of Christmas spirit.

This year, Alsager’s host for the evening was Signal Radio with Presenters, Stu Haycock and Maxine Mallen, alongside their Street Team from Signal 1 who mingled amongst the crowd with some giveaways.

The fun in Alsager began at 4pm with Signal Radio Presenters and Chair of Alsager Town Council, Councillor Shirley Jones welcoming and declaring the event officially open.  With over 60 Christmas themed market and food sellers on site, there really was something for everyone on the day, whether it was street food that took your fancy or your first mulled wine of the year, or visitors were looking to pick up a unique gift.

On the night visitors were entertained by local soloist Katie Barlow, Crewe Brass Band, The Can't Sing Choir and closing the event was an incredible band formed by a talented group of music students from Manchester University called Ben’s Band. A little before 6pm, the countdown started for the lights to be switched on promptly to a spectacular firebreather and fireworks display. In addition, there were fair-ground rides for all ages to enjoy.

Visitors lined up patiently to see the marvellous Christmas Tree Festival at Wesley Place Church on Lawton Road and very excited children had their moment with the big guy... Santa, who was kept very busy at The Community Church.

Finally, the beautifully lit town Christmas Tree that stands 30ft tall is located on the lawns outside the Alsager Civic. This year’s tree has kindly been sponsored by Dutton Contractors, Builders Merchants and Traffic Management Services.
