Tovertafel (Magic Table) in Alsager supports people living with dementia.

Alsager Partnership was successful in their bid for New Homes Bonus Funding to purchase a Tovertafel (Dutch for Magic Table).

The Tovertafel contains a series of games specifically designed for people with mid to late stage dementia to stimulate physical, social and mental activity.

The games consist of a series of interactive light animations that are projected on any table. The infrared sensor tracks the movement of the player’s hands to make the games react to the movement of the players.

Our Tovertafel has now been installed in Alsager Library, where it will be primarily used at the Memory Café. We will work with library staff to communicate with other groups, whose members may benefit from the Tovertafel experience.

The programmes are based on Reminiscence, Relaxation and Stimulation.

We have three sites, where the projector can be located. The library will be the main base, with the Learning and Development Centre and Dennis Round Court having use of the equipment at various times.

The Tovertafel was first demonstrated at the Library’s Coffee Morning on Wednesday 22nd May as part of Dementia Action Week.
